Meet the Team | Felting Section

At FEPSA, the Felting Section is where the felt undergoes one of the most significant transformations in the production process.

Led by Flávia, Paulo, Isabel and António, this stage is responsible for developing the felt's density, strength and dimensional stability through a carefully controlled felting process.

After the initial hardening stages, the felt cones pass through multi-roller machines, where the combination of heat, water and pressure gradually shrinks the material while increasing its density. They then continue to the bumper machine, where intense mechanical action further consolidates the fibers, allowing the felt to develop its final characteristics.

Throughout the process, the felt is continuously measured and inspected after each machine to ensure it remains within the required production specifications. Any marks or wrinkles created during the intensive felting process are carefully corrected before the felt moves on to the next production stage.
